Patrice Caldwell is seeking commercial fiction for middle grade, young adult, and adult readers as well as nonfiction. In children’s/YA, she is especially looking for author/illustrators, middle grade science fiction & fantasy, and YA horror. Recent children’s/YA novels she’s loved include The Serpent’s Secret by Sayantani DasGupta, The Bone Garden by Heather Kassner, Pie in the Sky by Remy Lai, Wilder Girls by Rory Powers, Running with Lions by Julian Winters, Darius the Great is Not Okay by Adib Khorram, The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton, and The Cruel Prince by Holly Black.

For adults, she would love romance novels a la the ones of Jasmine Guillory and Helen Hoang, horror like the works of Victor LaValle and Carmen Marie Machado as well as adult science fiction and fantasy like The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, Vicious by V.E. Schwab, and Jade City by Fonda Lee. Recent adult titles that have resonated with her are Orange World and Other Stories by Karen Russell, Gingerbread by Helen Oyeyemi, Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim, and Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston.

Before becoming a literary agent, Patrice was an editor Disney-Hyperion and, before that, Scholastic. She graduated from Wellesley College, where she studied Political Science and English, and is the founder of People of Color in Publishing, a grassroots organization.
